The British Columbia Rockies is full of flora and fauna, recreation and outdoor adventure opportunities.
|
Golden is surrounded by no less than six National Parks: Banff, Glacier, Jasper, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Yoho. Boating and angling are common activities with small canoes, kayaks and boats. Numerous trails can be enjoyed. In Yoho National Park, is the Burgess Shale near Golden, a treasure of ancient fossils of epic proportions and perhaps the world’s most significant discovery of 515 million year-old remains of more than 120 species of prehistoric marine animals preserved in exquisite detail and offers a glimpse of what life was like on Earth in the distant past. In some cases scientists can even see what these ancient creatures ate just before they died!
The mountain town of Nelson, situated in the heart of the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, offers stunning glacier-clad peaks and is really worthy of a visit, it has a diverse and vibrant community with an artistic flare to it and known for its picturesque countryside. Nestled between the spectacular Selkirk and Monashee Mountains is the charming town of Revelstoke. The region provides excellent hiking, mountain biking, fishing, caving, hot springs, heli hiking, canoeing and the pristine streams and ponds are fantastic for fishing and also superb for photo opportunities, it also offers an in-depth look at the ecology of this forest for those interested in nature.
