It is a paradise for sports enthusiasts and if you are feeling a little more adventurous, then why not try skydiving or a water-sport like kayaking or windsurfing. Visit the Beaudry Provincial Park in Winnipeg for the enchanting woods that are home to some of the largest basswood, cottonwood and maple trees in the area. Stroll the Wild Grape, or Elm Trail and wander along the twisting south bank of the Assiniboine River among the inhabitants of white-tailed deer, beaver, fox, owls, raccoons and muskrat. Or for birdwatchers, St. Ambroise Beach Provincial Park is a paradise. See warblers, geese and pelicans or just enjoy the shallow waters ideal for small families.
Don’t miss the famous Historic Site located in the center of the city, The Forks National Historic Site of Canada/Lieu Historique National du Canada de La Fourche, a 6,000-year old traditional meeting place, "the Forks" representing the aboriginal peoples where the two rivers meet. It later became a base for fur traders then a fort, now a scenic green oasis. Other attractions are the Naval Museum full of naval ships and photographs, thoroughbred racing at Assiniboia Downs, which kicks off 75-days of live racing for the 2005 season and the Manitoba Lotteries Derby Day for more action packed thoroughbred racing excitement.
