  Area Activities

Area Description
On the Ocean Haven Property:

· You can walk down the road to the beach and use our Private Beach Access
· You can walk on some short trails in the fields and woods
· You can drive up the mountainside, and then hike on lumber roads for miles
· Get out your putter and practice on our little green ( Par 1)

There are 4 accessible beaches within a 10-minute drive. Our Belle Cote beach is at the foot of our property and stretches close to a mile. Opposite the harbour is the margaree Harbour beach. Along the Route 219 coast to the south at about 5km is the Whale Cove beach and at about 11km is the Chimney Corner beach.

Whale watching & Ocean Boat Tours A variety within an hour’s reach.

Hiking... Locally, there are a dozen or so casual hikes along the Margaree River. 25 minutes North in the Highlands National Park is a vast array of trails.

Canoe ...Locally, there is one outfitter who has canoes and for about $50, they take you either 3 Km or 7Km up the River to a launch point. You travel downriver toward the harbour. The Margaree River is very winding and has some fast pools, so you can spend up to a whole day for the run if you wish. It has a channel, but you can land at several spots.

Kayak... About 25 minutes north is a Kayak outfitter that gives lessons and offers trips in the Cheticamp harbour or out in the Ocean.

Museums... We have within 2 hours, small museums such as the Margaree Salmon Museum, Joe’s Scarecrow Outdoor Museum, a Miner’s museum, the MacDonald Scottish farm museum, an Acadian fishing museum, a Whale Interpretive Centre. Then at Baddeck you have the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, and a recreated working Scottish farm at Iona.

Music...timing is everything to find the music. Friday evenings is the adults dance with traditional Cape Breton fiddlers and step dancers at South West Margaree. Saturday you have a music afternoon in Cheticamp or a dance at West Mabou. Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday evenings, there are what are called Ceildh’s with fiddlers, dancers, and singers , both professional and amateur .

Cultures You are close to the Scottish, British, Irish and French Acadian culture areas.
