The Lighthouse Gate Bed and Breakfast Guest Suites . . .10 minutes from Cape Breton, home of the Cabot Trail! A quiet and restful retreat, The Lighthouse Gate offers comfortable accommodations from which to begin your Nova Scotia and Cape Breton holiday. Located in the community of Linwood, this Bed & Breakfast is conveniently central to many tourist venues of Eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, including the Cabot Trail. This 1-1/2 story heritage home, built circa 1853, overlooks picturesque Linwood Harbour. Once an expansive farm, this 10 acre property holds the best nature has to offer with the nearby ocean and wooded areas. -------------------------------------- =================================- AMENITIES The house features 2 guest rooms. Both have private baths and are tastefully decorated with antiques, hand-painted crafts, Nova Scotia art and well-known writings. There is a sitting room and a tv available for guests' use. A cot is available. The large front deck offers a spectacular view of the harbour and is a great place to enjoy one of our delicious home-cooked breakfast. We also have 2 housekeeping suites which are completely self sufficient and have every thing you'll need for a pleasant, comfortable stay. They have double beds, full baths, tv's, a barbeque and a ground level patio. One has a pull out sofa bed (great for couples traveling with children), the other is wheelchair accessible. A full country breakfast is served between 7:30 am. and 9:30 am. Daily features include fresh baking, pancakes with blueberry maple syrup or fresh strawberries, frittata, french toast and a ham, cheese and veggie omlette. If weather permits breakfast will be served on the front veranda over looking the harbour. We encourage guests to enjoy a nice relaxing rest in our hammock under an ancient chestnut tree. If you are the adventurous type try our heritage/nature trail. The trail connects the property to a nearby picnic park located right on the water. -------------------------------------- =================================- ATTRACTIONS Within 5 minutes there's Hobo's Pizza and the Hearty Sole Tap and Grill. Also nearby is Our Lady of Grace Monastery. Originally a Trappist retreat, it was established in 1825 by French monks. The Augustinian Order took possession in 1938 when they came to Canada to escape Nazi persecution. In 2000 it was purchased by the monks of St. Maron. The chapel boasts stained glass windows, marble alters, mosaic tile work and fine paintings by a New York artist. A short path nearby will take you past the Stations of the Cross to Our Lady of Grace Shrine. If you want to relax near the ocean there is a beach 2 km. away and a water front picnic park within walking distance where you can watch the sunset.
