General Description
Gail and Joe Kern have created a beautiful Bed & Breakfast on the shores of P.E.I. Come and relax over coffee in their lovely sunroom or take in the charming sites just a short drive away. They provide a home away from home for those traveling to the area on business or pleasure. It's always worth the visit. The House
Summer Garden is an open post and beam house on

over 100 acres of land on the south shore of
Prince Edward Island.
Breakfast can be taken in the open dining room, the sun porch, or the upstairs veranda. The large living room is an excellent place to relax and look out over the fruit trees and roses. You are welcome to browse our extensive book, music, and video libraries, and there is a trunk full of games to amuse.

The Food

Start your days with delicious and varied full breakfasts of German apple pancake, blintzes, croissant, cream scones, Joe's famous spelt pancakes with fruit and yogurt, omelettes, spanish tortilla, seasonal fresh fruit, freshly ground organic fairly traded coffees, and yes---strawberry shortcake for breakfast!
The menu changes every day so there are other pleasant surprises along the way.

We are the former owners (25 years) of PEI's first and largest natural, imported, and specialty food store.

We focus on organic, fresh, local foods and encourage special diet requests.

The Land
The resident outdoor cat, Barney, can give visitors a tour of the organic gardens, orchard, and greenhouse.

The fruit blossoms are wonderful to see and smell in the Spring. Summer is the time for swimming, relaxing on the beach, hiking, volleyball, or badminton and to enjoy fresh organic produce from our gardens. Come sit on the veranda and watch the full moon on the Northumberland Strait.
Winter encourages visitors to go cross country skiing on the trails just outside our back door.

  Area Activities

Area Description
We have excellent cycling, swimming, and miles of woods trails for hiking and bird watching.

Golfing, more beaches, theatre, and dining are nearby; 10 minutes to Victoria-by-the-Sea, 30 minutes to Charlottetown and Summerside. Ask us about arranging bicycle rentals, theatre ticket reservations, and Teetimes at nearby golf courses.
Cycle the shore road or jog along the beach where you can walk for miles and dig for clams at low tide.

Take a straw hat for a short walk down to the quiet provincial park beach for swimming and picnics, and return in the evening for spectacular sunsets over the Northumberland Strait.

Or, if you visit in the winter, a 10 minute drive will take you to Brookvale, PEI's alpine and groomed Nordic ski and hiking facility. If you are fortunate, the northern lights may dance for you too.
