General Description
The graciousness and charm of yesteryear come to life in this lovely restored Inn, located in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Beautiful old trim, wide staircases and high ceilings are just some of the features of this historic building. The hardwood covered hallways on the main floor lead to large spacious rooms which have been restored and decorated to suit the elegance of the brick building originally built in the 1860's. Each of the 17 rooms, decorated in one of three color schemes, shows off a breathtaking view of the grounds and surrounding areas within Tignish.
Stroll along the quiet pathway nestled in the trees from the Inn leading down to the road, or enjoy a nature walk along the newly developed Confederation Trail located nearby. A short walk from the Inn will also find you at the parish church with its magnificent pipe organ, the Tignish Museum with a collection of historic photos and artifacts on the former convent, and the village itself, and many food outlets such as restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores.

Relax after a long day of travelling and sightseeing by joining others in the sitting room and browse through old yearbooks dating back to when this building was an educational institution. Visualize how the Inn looked many decades ago when it was filled with young students attending classes taught by the sisters from the Congregation-de-Notre Dame.

After a restful night's sleep, come down to our friendly dining room and enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast consisting of homemade muffins and cinnamon rolls, along with coffee/tea and juices, or have the option of purchasing a full breakfast. As an alternative to dining out, guest have full access to kitchen facilities to prepare meals at their own convenience.

A Bit of History If centennial and mortar laid by the parishioners of Tignish could speak, many and varied would be the tales told of happenings to Our Lady of Angels Convent, since that memorable day in 1868 when the sisters of the Congregation-de-Notre Dame in Montreal first took up residence in the present structure.
In the mid 1860's, the people from Tignish and surrounding areas were becoming increasingly aware of the need for better educational facilities. Bishop Peter MacIntyre made a promise to the parishioners that as soon as a convent was built in the community, he would make sure that some sisters from Montreal would come to live there to teach.

The people of the area began at once to construct the convent, building it of brick manufactured right in Tignish. Two years later, Bishop MacIntyre wrote to Montreal to inform the sisters that the building was ready for them.

Many reports of the beauty of the building and of the preparations being made had reached the sisters, but the reality surpassed anything they could have imagined. What astonished them most was that they were the recipients of such a magnificent convent built by the parishioners who themselves had only the basic necessities.
