General Description

You are looking at one of the oldest houses in Qualicum Beach. It
was built in 1912 by a pioneering family, who for many years ran a 20
acre chicken farm. The acreage was later subdivided into smaller lots
and became what is now known as Qualicum Woods, one of the more
desirable areas of Qualicum Beach. The original farmhouse was
updated and part of the old orchard preserved.

The present owners, Brenda Harris and Hendrik Witmans, have
made a new annex to the house into a private B&B suite. A sunny lounge
area opens onto a patio that overlooks the orchard with a distant view
of Mount Arrowsmith. The bedroom is spacious and there is a private
bathroom. Please click on the links below to see some pictures of our
B&B.

The town of Qualicum Beach lies almost in the centre of Vancouver
Island. A ferry ride from Vancouver is a must for every tourist, with
breathtaking scenery of the West Coast habitat. Qualicum Beach has
kept a unique 'village like' atmosphere and is considered a haven for
retirees. You will not find strip malls here but a pleasant, picturesque
town centre with small shops and wide sidewalks.

A waterfront stroll on a summer day can be exhilarating and the
sunsets are not to be missed. Several cafes and restaurants along the
water's edge cater to the hungry visitor for lunch or dinner. When the
tide is out, quiet, sandy beaches stretch for miles. Walking and hiking
trails abound in the area: Englishman's River, Rathtrevor Park, or
Little Qualicum Falls, to mention a few. If golf is to your liking, there
are five superb golf courses in the vicinity and many others a short
drive out of town.

Our Rates:

Our suite is set up for two people and we charge $ 60.00 per couple per night.
If needed, accommodation for a third person can also be arranged, for an
additional $ 15.00. Reservations are necessary.

Around Town

Going West, visitors can walk through MacMillan Bloedel's
Cathedral Grove and enjoy a beautiful old-growth forest on the way to
Port Alberni. Here one can tour a saw mill, or just leisurely walk along
the harbour. Continuing, the winding highway will take you to the
villages of Ucluelet and Tofino, where the Pacific surf pounds the vast
expanse of sandy beaches.

North from Qualicum, the coastal highway passes through small
communities that hug the waterfront: Qualicum Bay, Deep Bay, Fanny
Bay, to mention a few. Oysters are on the menu for lunch stops out here!
About an hour's drive from Qualicum Beach are Comox and Courtenay,
with a downtown area of small specialty shops. Still further lies
Campbell River, famous for its salmon fishing.

South of Qualicum one passes through Nanaimo, Ladysmith,
Chemainus, and Duncan on the way to Victoria. In season, several
vineyards in the area are open for wine tasting. Historic Victoria houses
the Parliament Buildings. the harbour, and the downtown core with side
walk cafe's and excellent shops. A visit to the province's capital is truly
worth the extra drive!

(and hear!) seals and sealions. Special whalewatching tours are
