Local sights and attractions include:

Whitewater Rafting
Are you are in the mood for a relaxing kayak tour along the Bay of Fundy's spectacular coastline? Perhaps you're ready for the thrill of riding the white water of the world's most powerful tidal surge as the Shubenacadie River reverses its flow?

Located in Maitland at the outlet of the Shubenacadie River on the Bay of Fundy, The Foley House Inn is where your unforgettable water adventure begins. We are within walking distance to the start of your whitewater thrills. We will gladly help you select among the best rafting tour operators in the region.

The Glooscap Trail & Eagle Spotting
Come and explore this special place, where the majestic power of the world's highest tides have shaped a landscape of unforgettable splendour. This is a land where eagles and osprey soar, where moose graze in quiet marshes and fall migrations bring hundreds of thousands of shorebirds. Where else can you walk on the ocean floor at low tide and then witness the power of the world's largest tidal bore?

The Glooscap Trail follows the spectacular shore of the Minas Basin, whose nutrient-rich waters create an ecological diversity that make it one of North America's great natural treasures. Here you can explore pristine beaches where agate and sparkling amethyst are the gifts of the waves. Hike a deep forest trail to a cascading waterfall, or enjoy the endless view from high atop soaring sea cliffs.

The Glooscap Trail is accessible directly from the village of Maitland and the Foley House Inn.

Historic Maitland
Settled by the Acadians in 1685, the village of Maitland had become one of North America's major shipbuilding centres by the late 19th century. The W. D. Lawrence, the largest wooden sailing ship ever built in Canada, was built and launched here.

Maitland is known for the magnificent homes built by its wealthy shipbuilders, and the village was designated Nova Scotia's first Heritage Conservation District. View the commemorative monument on the grounds of Maitland Meeting Place and Visitor Information Centre. Enjoy a picture collection and accompanying descriptive plaques of 24 of the village's heritage homes.

Lawrence House Museum
Located in Maitland, this Victorian home of William D. Lawrence, builder of Canada's largest full-rigged wooden ship, is a National Historic Site. Artifacts and photos depict the construction of the 'Great Ship' and narrate the region's shipbuilding heritage.
